Accidental Witness

We have a texting group among about 40 women in our church, where a Scripture verse is mass texted every day, Monday through Friday.  I became the current sender for those texts about three months ago, and everything seemed to be going great.  Until.  I received a text at 4:48 am stating this: “ok, whoever you are, Sam (not the real name) has been living a lie, he let the devil get ahold of him”.  Now since the person’s name I thought I was sending texts to was Dana, I was stunned.  I replied to that text asking what they were referring to, and got this answer: “I was to be his wife next week but he cheats, lies, and isin illicit activities, and then I hear him mumbleI wish that woman would stop sending that stuff so I am letting u know”.

I read that and laughed out loud!  I thought I was texting a sweet fellow sister in Christ named Dana, when in fact I was texting a totally lost man named Sam, who wanted me to quit!  This man who cheats, lies, and lost his fiance the week before their wedding…who had also been receiving the Word of God by text 5 days a week!!  Do not tell me God doesn’t have a sense of humor!  I did more research and realized that I had typed a 6 instead of a 9 for the last digit of the phone #, and that had caused the issue.

So what does that say about our God and His Word?  And His love for sinners?  The most amazing thing!  Scripture tells us that Jesus Himself addressed this in Isaiah 55:12:  So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth, it shall not return to me void.  But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”  Isn’t that awesome?  I picture in my mind Sam’s Mom, or grandmom, or someone else in his life, praying for weeks and months and probably years for his salvation. Someone who loves him very much, and desperately wants him to come to know the Lord.  And maybe it’s someone who doesn’t know what else to say, or who Sam has shut out of his life.

AND YET!  Along comes a dizzy blonde!  One who gets assigned to text Scripture and can’t type a phone # right, so through that God sends him His Word 60 different times over the course of three months!  Only God could make such a thing happen, love someone enough, and have mercy on someone to the point He would cause Scripture to flood his text inbox.

I shared not long ago about the person in my life that I and others prayed for 26 years before he found the Lord, and what a joy it was for us.  But I still don’t know what particular event led our persom to finally accept the Lord.  Just think…for the past 3 months God has been answering someone else’s prayers and they still don’t even know it yet.  Now I have joined them in prayer, as have others, and we are all praying that God will continue His great work!

And by the way, I did stop sending texts to him.  I had identified myself, and his was a local #, so for safety reasons I did quit.  And I may never know in this lifetime what decision he makes about what he read…but I pray that one day, when time has ended and we’re all before the Lord, that I will hear his name called and celebrate for all eternity with him! To God be the glory for His great salvation!
